2020 Telluride continues to collect accolades in first production year

2020 Kia Telluride wins the CUV of Texas Award

There is a reason nobody disputes the adage, ‘Everything is bigger in Texas.’ As it applies to the inventory available at the Classic Kia Carrollton, we’re choosing to believe people using that popular phrase are specifically referring to the all-new 2020 Kia Telluride. Select members of the Texas Auto Writers Association spent two days putting nearly 30 different vehicles through their paces. After it was over, and everyone got cleaned up, the TAWA announced that the 2020 Kia Telluride won the CUV of Texas Award. The new Telluride enters its first year of production as the automaker’s most capable crossover SUV and that was reflected in the group’s objective evaluation.

“The Telluride was designed in California, assembled in Georgia, and has now been honored in Texas with two awards from this distinguished group of journalists,” Michael Cole, COO and executive vice president, Kia Motors America, said in a press release. “TAWA members know automotive, especially utility vehicles, and Telluride being crowned not only the ‘CUV of Texas’ but also ‘Mid-Sized CUV’, is further proof of Kia’s ‘Give It Everything’ credo. It’s true what they say: Everything, even Telluride, is bigger in Texas.”

Automotive journalists from Texas meet every year to take a look at the best of what the automotive industry has to offer. This is more than just an academic exercise where conclusions are made based on what is written on a spec sheet. The 44 TAWA members took advantage of street courses and spent some time on a test track to independently evaluate what each of the 29 vehicles has to offer. In the end, the 2020 Kia Telluride stood at the top of the group’s midsize CUV class, in addition to being named “CUV of Texas.”

During the testing and evaluation process that took place outside Denton, April 14-16, the TAWA members were encouraged to drive the Telluride and its fellow competitors like they would on a daily basis. What makes the new Kia model’s win even more impressive is that the midsize CUV category’s runner up was the 2019 Mercedes-Benz E63 S Wagon.
